Militant groups from Indonesia and Malaysia have reportedly merged to form a new armed unit similar to international terror group Islamic State (IS). The unit purportedly uses Malay as its official medium of communication. According to a source from the Bukit Aman police headquarters, the unit is known as Katibah Nusantara Lid Daulah Islamiyyah, or Malay Archipelago Unit of Islamic State. It is believed to have been formed because of the language barrier with other international IS-affiliated groups. The source further claimed that militant Islamist group Jemaah Islamiyah has been actively spreading its ideology in Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines.
