According to UK-based research centre WealthInsight, Malaysia is projected to have 20 billionaires and 30,054 millionaires by 2018. The number of high net worth individuals (HNWIs) in Malaysia last year was 26,000 with a combined wealth of RM528bil. Kuala Lumpur has the most number of millionaires at 13,800, followed by Petaling Jaya (1,744) and Shah Alam (1,017).

A 48-year-old woman was heartbroken when she discovered that her recently deceased husband had left his Employee Provident Fund (EPF) retirement fund to his lover instead of her. M Tamil Selvee was disappointed when she was told that she had not been named as a nominee. The 48-year-old woman received the bad news when she visited the EPF branch in Jasin. The woman, who earns RM322 a month sweeping floors at a temple, was aware of her husband;s affair but had decided to turn a blind to it. “However, I did not expect him to change the nomination and give all of his savings to the woman,” she said. It is understood that Tamil Selvee had pleaded with the other woman to split the money between them, but was ignored.
