The Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) has expressed concern that wheat flour containing benzoyl peroxide is still widely sold in the market.  According to PPIM, the use of the bleaching food conditioner has been banned in Europe and China as it is purportedly harmful to health. It argued that consumption of the bleached flour carries the risks of getting diabetes, arthritis and cancer. The group urged the Health Ministry to justify the need to use benzoyl peroxide in flour.
