A voice for unity

THE spirit of solidarity was in the air that morning. Regardless of their own heritage, students of SMK Damansara Utama (SMKDU) donned Malaysian traditional attire of all sorts.

The highlight for the day was the launch of a month-long celebration, from Aug 15, to mark the nation’s gaining independence from the British, and Malaysia Day, when Sabah and Sarawak were officially part of the country. The event began with a bang as a colourful walk-in party entered the Petaling Jaya school’s compound. The procession comprised cyclists, uniformed units as well as antique and high-powered motor cars.
