A TOTAL of 213 students were recently awarded scholarships for their tertiary studies under the Petronas Education Sponsorship Programme.
Initiated by Petronas in 1975, the scheme sponsors students from the foundation level until their first degree in local and foreign universities.
Of the recipients, 100 were offered scholarships to pursue overseas courses, while the remaining 113 were offered to further their studies at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak.
The scholarships were presented by Petronas’ Human Resource Management vice-president Raiha Azni Abdul Rahman in a ceremony held at the varsity last month.
Speaking at the event, Raiha Azni said that the programme was part of the company’s commitment to develop the nation’s human capital, while simultaneously nuturing a pool of capable personnel to meet Petronas’ own human resource requirements.
The scholarship recipients were identified through a stringent selection process, which took into account candidates’ academic merit, co-curricular excellence, results of written and interview assessments and socio-economic background.
The scholarships awarded were part of the 400 offered by the company this year.
