WE ARE on board the Ekspress Rakyat intercity train service to Taiping hauled by Tun Biajid, a diesel electric locomotive bearing the number 24115.

Rumbling gently out of KL Sentral, it dawned on us that the power-generating car had been named after one of Hang Tuah’s sons, an old-world name apt for a transportation mode that has been chugging on since 1885.
