YONG PENG: For former army recruit Kpl Maimon Othman, giving up the service was a tough decision to make but she had to, in order to care for her young children after her husband died.

The now 54-year-old mother-of-four entered the army’s Rejimen Semboyan DiRaja under the communications unit back in 1978 when she was just 18.
