MIRI: Villagers in the middle Baram basin in northern Sarawak are now fighting a desperate battle to stop the construction of the proposed RM4 billion Baram hydro electric dam after two fresh attempts were made by the state authorities to dismantle blockades leading to the dam site over the past 48 hours.

The protesting villagers from Long Kesseh and Long Naah are still holding their grounds, after they managed to resist two attempts by enforcement authorities and the dam developer to force their machineries and workers into the dam site, said Save Baram People’s committee chairman Philip Jau.
