No souvenirs for Perak government officers

THE Perak Government will heed the request of the Sultan of Perak to refrain from receiving or presenting souvenirs to dignitaries at official functions.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the message has been conveyed to all department heads.

“There are times when we  will feel awkward rejecting such souvenirs from the organising committee of functions and launches.

“We appreciate their efforts to be courteous and we do not want to cause any trouble to them,”  he said during the presentation of appointment letters to new Perak Public Service Commission chairman Datuk Jamry Suri and its new members at the state secretariat building on Wednesday.

“If anyone still feel they should give souvenirs, then books or a basket of fruits will suffice,” he added.

Dr Zambry stressed that it was not a necessity to give these souvenirs to either him, the state exco members, the state secretary or department heads.

He also said that the circular on not giving or receiving souvenirs was immediately effective.

Sultan of Perak Sultan Dr Nazrin Shah had requested that no souvenirs be given to him or to Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim during official functions in the state when he chaired the 161st Perak Dewan Negara meeting recently.

The request has been made known to all state directors through a circular signed by state secretary Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan.

At the ceremony, Dr Zambry said the commission consists of a seven-member board, including the chairman.

He said four members also received their appointment letter, including former state executive council member Datuk Ramly Zahari, former state deputy finance officer Datuk Zuraida Arshad and Ipoh Timur MCA division chairman Datuk Thong Fah Chong.

“They have been vetted by the state government and also approved by the Sultan of Perak.

Dr Zambry added that there were two more spots in the commission and the candidates are in the process of being identified.
