JOAS happy with pledge to assist indigenous groups


MIRI: The coalition of indigenous organisations of Malaysia – Jaringan Orang Asal SeMalaysia (JOAS) – had a most fruitful outing at the World Conference of Indigenous People during the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York that concluded a few days ago.

JOAS president Thomas Jalong, who went to the conference with JOAS Secretariat director Jannie Lasimbang from Sabah and Janita Engi from Peninsular Malaysia, held meetings with international organisations that are fighting for the recognition of natives’ rights, as well as UN officials and also a Malaysian minister and officials.
