KUCHING: The Head of State Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud’s 78th birthday – his first since assuming the position after stepping down as Chief Minister – was celebrated with pomp and parade.
Tens of thousands thronged Kuching’s Padang Merdeka from as early as 6am on Saturday, where some 5,000 participants had gathered to put on one of the grandest shows the state capital has ever hosted.
