Lim won first place with her beautiful red dress made from paper.
DECKED in self-designed dresses made from recyclable items, 23 participants paraded on stage during the eco-wear design segment of Miss Malaysia Earth 2014.
Utilising materials such as paper plates, magazine pages, plastic bags, aluminium cans, leaves, compact discs and more, these pretty lasses showed their flair for fashion and going green by weaving together gorgeous dresses to be worn by them throughout the segment.
The dress that garnered the most attention was a large rosette dress made of red-coloured paper worn by Perak contestant Cassandra Lim Wei Yern, who also won first place in the category.
Although she experienced some difficulty in walking due to its elaborate hem, the 22-year-old make-up artist was still confident and flashed a smile to the audience.
Each of them were required to introduce themselves along with conveying a message dedicated to saving Mother Earth before showcasing their talents.
Second place and third place went to Valentina Eddie Galing from Sabah and Kiren Dhillon from Terengganu respectively, both 26.
Galing donned a shiny frosty-looking silver dress made from paper plates and compact discs, whereas Dhillon won for a glamourous black dress with a mesh train that had shattered compact discs attached all over it.
Apart from showcasing their tailoring skills, participants were required to compete in another category after the segment - showcasing some of their other talents on stage.
First-place winner was Johor’s Coco Tan Hui Chan, 19, who won the judges’ over with her Latin dance moves.
Jeanne Kueh Yong Jun, 21, from Selangor, won second place, and Sabrina Cheng Lee Yee, 20, from Perak, took home third prize.
The grand finals of the Miss Malaysia Earth 2014 pageant will be held at MH Hotel in Ipoh on Sunday.
