As I write this, our Dutch household is still reeling from a heartbreaking defeat against Argentina in a penalty shootout in the 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-finals. We have been waking up at 3am to watch the The Netherlands’ Oranje team, as they are fondly called, play and win against the world champions Spain in the first round of 16 and eventually dominating the group match against Australia and Chile.
It was followed by the very tight and defensive game with Costa Rica in the quarterfinal, which the Dutch won in a penalty shootout; only to be defeated by the Argentinians in the semi-finals last Thursday.
