MPSJ president Datuk Asmawi Kasbi (left0 receiving the five star rating from Khalid.
THE Subang Jaya Municipal Council received the highest rating of five stars to outclass 11 other councils in the Star ratings appreciation system for local authorities.
Before this, only the Johor Baru City Council had received the prestigious rating.
The award was presented by Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim recently.
Khalid said along with MPSJ, other councils listed among the 10 best local authorities in Malaysia were Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).
“The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has been chosen as the only local authority to receive five stars for promoting the national language in public areas.
“The star ratings given by the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry to the local authorities, uses the 354 indicator that includes areas such as management, core services, customer service and community participation.
A total of 70% of the ratings came from residents followed by 20% from businesses and the remaining 10% from non-governmental organisations,’’ said Khalid, during the ceremony held at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah in Shah Alam last Monday.
Nine local authorities — MBPJ, MBSA, MPK, MPAJ, Selayang Muncipal Council, Kuala Langat District Council, Kuala Selangor District Council, Kajang Municipal Council and Sepang Municipal Council — received four-star ratings.
Two other local authorities, Hulu Selangor District Council and Sabak Bernam District Council, retained the three-star ratings.
Khalid said local authorities should increase their revenue further to make Selangor a state with good transportation and roads, and increase agriculture production up to 10%.
“Selangor is listed in the Malaysia Book of Records for having the first woman mayor — Petaling Jaya mayor Datin Alinah Ahmad, who is among only five women mayors in the world,’’ he said.
At the same event, Khalid and State Local Government, Study and Research Committee chairman Datuk Teng Chang Khim also commended members of Pantas from the MPK who had the arduous task of putting out the fires in Johan Setia in Klang.
Teng said the state planned to develop the area, particularly on improving the irrigation system to prevent a recurrence of fires.
