IT WAS sheer joy for lawyer Koh Ong Lin, who emerged the lucky grand-prize winner of The Star–Qatar Airways FC Barcelona Contest.
A dream trip to Barcelona to watch the last match of the Spanish La Liga season between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid on May 18 is her reward.
The match, going into the final week of the La Liga, will potentially decide who emerges as the champions in Spain.
The contest, run throughout April in StarMetro, received an overwhelming response from readers, and judges had a tough time choosing the winner.
“This is totally unexpected and I am so excited, I cannot wait to go to Barcelona. I will be taking my brother, Koh Ong Su, who is an avid supporter of Barcelona,” Ong Lin said at the prize presentation ceremony at Menara Star in Petaling Jaya.
“I get to travel around the beautiful city and my brother gets to watch his favourite team in action. So, it’s a dream come true for both of us,” she added.
Apart from watching the match, both Ong Lin and Ong Su, won two return Business Class tickets, inclusive of accommodation, match hospitality and a city tour, courtesy of Qatar Airways and the Catalan Tourism Board.
The consolation prize went to Lim Beng Khai, 32, a real estate negotiator, who was equally pleased to have won.
“I am an ardent fan of Barcelona and their famous tiki-taka playing style. I was planning to propose to my girlfriend during the trip if I had won the grand prize and am certain that she would have said yes to my proposal.
Nevertheless, I am still happy to have won the consolation prize,” said Beng Khai.
The contest, which ran for four weeks, required readers to answer a question on Barcelona each week and complete a slogan in the final week.
Ten consolation-prize winners took home exclusive Barcelona merchandise.
“As a relatively young airline, we are proud to partner the City of Barcelona and FC Barcelona, as it fits with both our theme, which is ‘The team that unites the world’.
FC Barcelona’s image and style of play is in tandem with Qatar Airways vision of uniting different cultures and travelling in comfort and style.
“We are also grateful to be in partnership with The Star and look forward to working together again in future,” said Qatar Airways country manager for Malaysia and Brunei Emmanuel Oswald.
Present to hand over the prizes were The Star executive editor Brian Martin and Oswald.
