KUCHING: Rescuers coming to the aid of an accident victim in Mile 17 Siburan had the shock of their life when the man’s arm came off when they pulled him out of his wrecked car.

The incident unfolded when rescue team from the Siburan Fire Station responded to an emergency call around 9pm on Friday.

The team rushed to the bridge near Taman Duranda Emas where a 60-year-old man had lost control of his car, which crashed into the bridge.

The rescuers sprang into action when they saw the victim pinned in his seat.

As they pulled him out, one of his arms suddenly came off.

The rescuers admitted to being shocked by the “gruesome” development in the dark and only realised that the arm was artificial after they noticed the straps on it and that it was not bleeding.

The driver, who was injured but later confirmed to be in stable condition, was brought to the Sarawak General Hospital in an ambulance.

Meanwhile in Serian, a man was arrested for stealing cable near a bus stop at the town.

The suspect, 34, from Shah Alam, Selangor, was caught committing the act by patrollers, who were making their rounds along Mile 29 Jalan Kuching/Serian around 3.30pm on Saturday.

The Shah Alam man was then brought to Serian station for questioning.

A sizable amount of copper wires was also seized, as well as a heavy duty wire cutter and a knife, which were found on the suspect.

Police are investigating.
