LUSH green landscapes and scenic views may be some of the things that we keep in mind when looking for a place to have a picnic.

This simple outing need not be an expensive affair - a walk down to your neighbourhood park, combined with food, drinks and a board game or two will be all you need for an affordable yet fun way to spend your day off in the great outdoors.

This weekend, whip up some home-cooked food and bask in the sun (or enjoy the shade of a leafy tree) because the Klang Valley is home to some great picnic locations.

Metro Online Broadcast (mob.com.my) suggests 10 picnic spots worth checking out.

1. Kepong Metropolitan  Park in Kepong 
Located near the MRR2 Highway, this park’s greenery makes it the perfect spot to lay out a mat and have some good food. Since the Kepong park is also a haven for running enthusiasts, go ahead and burn off extra calories by going for a jog after. You can also throw around a frisbee or fly a kite with your friends and family.

Much like some of the roads in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, some of the jogging trails in Taman Rimba Kiara are shaded by a canopy of trees. With its many benches, TRK is a convenient neighbourhood park for a picnic with friends and a great place to enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer. 

3. Titiwangsa Lake Garden
Situated near Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur, this park is conveniently located near a horse-riding facility and a radio control car racing track. There is ample space to spread out a mat or a blanket and soak in the sights of the park, such as the lake surrounded by jogging trails. 
 
4. Taman Pertanian Bukit Cahaya, Shah Alam 
Famous for its cycling routes, Taman Pertanian also doubles as an ideal location for a picnic, thanks to its lush green scenery, cycling facilities, gardens and lakes. With a small entry fee, Taman Pertanian can be an affordable full-day outing with friends and family for those who love being surrounded by nature.

5. Taman Saujana Hijau in Putrajaya
Located in Precint 11, Putrajaya, this recreational park is a green reserve that will delight teh nature enthusiast. With colourful flowers, pine trees and acres of beautifully landscaped lawns surrounding the area, this hilly terrain is not only an excellent picnic spot for visitors but a visually stunning location for photographers to shoot nature at its best. 

6. Kanching Rainforest Waterfall in Kanching Forest Reserve
A picnic by a waterfall can be an invigorating experience. Located between Selayang and Rawang, this waterfall is a cool respite for those wanting a change of scenery from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle.

7. The Central Park at Desa Parkcity
A private park that is open to the public, The Central Park in Desa Parkcity is a canine-friendly park that provides dog waste disposal bags to encourage visitors to clean up after their furry friends. Its well-kept lawns, beautiful lake and park benches make it a great place to bring your family and dogs for a picnic, or to merely lie on the grass and wind down with a good book.

8. Gunung Angsi in Negri Sembilan
If hiking is your cup of tea, carpool with a group of friends and go off the beaten track. Work up a sweat by climbing the 825m of Gunung Angsi and then treat yourself to a lavish picnic upon reaching the peak! However, remember not to leave any litter behind and dispose of them in the dustbins upon exiting. 

9. Perdana Botanical Garden Kuala Lumpur
Arguably one of Malaysia’s most popular parks, Perdana Botanical Garden near Jalan Parlimen is a family-friendly park that is also ideal for those looking to take pictures with scenic backgrounds. There are many things to see there, with butterfly, bird and deer parks within close proximity, making it a fun day out with the family.

10. KLCC Park
Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, KLCC Park is a famous tourist hotspot with ample trees, which provide visitors with some shade from the sun. The park is also a great way to spend a lazy Sunday morning people-watching and taking in the sights of the Petronas Twin Towers and other landmarks that surround the park.
