FOR those who knew him, Laurence How loved Manchester United Football Club with all his heart. The founder of Man United Supporters Club in Malaysia passed away on March 15. He was 66.
His support for the biggest English club was unmatched and this drove him to unite all Manchester United fans in Malaysia through MUSC Malaysia — an organisation that he founded and chaired with the same devotion that he had for the Red Devils.
During his time with MUSC, several Man United players of note came to rub shoulders with the fans at the clubhouse and one of the stars even went on to commend it.
Former Manchester United footballer Peter Barnes told the media that the MUSC clubhouse was like a shrine, a Man Utd museum when he visited the clubhouse, located in SS2, Petaling Jaya, back in 2011.
“It must be the only clubhouse in Malaysia for Man United that’s like this,” said Barnes, who played for United between 1985 and 1987.
How’s final event with MUSC was the annual Chinese New Year open house last month. It was an annual gathering that enables Man United fans to mingle with each other and talk football at great length. And more than 100 fans decked out in their signature Man United colours and scarves attended the event.
MUSC club royal patron, Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, was also present with his wife Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah.
Clad in United jerseys, the royal couple shared a light moment with fellow fans.
The highlight of the annual Chinese New Year open house was the loh sang tossing, undertaken by everyone present.
United fans across Malaysia expressed grief at the news of How’s passing.
A minute’s silence was observed prior to the start of the viewing party of the
game between Manchester United and Liverpool at Encorp Strand Mall in Kota Damansara.
There was also a nice touch from former United legends David May and Norman Whiteside who tweeted their condolences on hearing of How’s passing.
A tribute to Laurence How
