CAPITAL FM celebrated the grace of women in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2014 with a “Power Pouts Campaign” in Tropicana City Mall recently.
The campaign, organised for the second year running, sought to remind women of the beauty in their strength.
Capital FM announcers Janice Yap, Ika Kamaruzzaman, Isabel Taye and their only male announcer, Aanont Wathanasin, better known as Non, aimed to achieve this by asking women in the mall to take selfies while giving their own versions of a ‘Power Pout’.
These were then uploaded onto Instagram, hashtagged @capitalfm889 and #capitalpowerpouts, as the women received lipsticks from The Body Shop Malaysia, in support of the cause, and Capital FM postcards.
“The campaign is a platform to get women to look in the mirror to examine themselves and why they are powerful,” said Non on the symbolic use of lipstick.
As a radio station catered to and for women, Capital FM expanded its broadcasting reach towards Penang on 107.6FM beginning March 17 this year.
“Every movement starts with a ripple. Hopefully this campaign will grow exponentially through social media in the Klang Valley and Penang next year,” he added.
Amanda Tan Yen Mei, a mother of two girls, believed the campaign would provide good exposure to educate women on violence and oppression by bringing them to a higher level of understanding.
“I wanted to stay at home to educate my girls about being women with power.
“Women should support and encourage other women to strive for their dream,” said the online physical trainer-cum-housewife.
Amanda’s proud husband, Gary Loo, said it was wonderful being in a household full of women and that his wife was a model for strong women and working mothers.
