Bringing the house down: Gregory taking frontman role for Hi Breed during the preview show at Utopia in Kuching.
IF the lively preview show by Hi Breed in Kuching is any indication to what is in store for visitors at Miri Country Music Fest (MCMF) this Feb 15, then the fans will definitely not going to be disappointed.
The Kuching-based five-men ensemble had clubbers at Utopia on Friday night tapping
and snapping to an energetic line-up of country and folk blues hits, which was quite a rarity among those in the city’s mainstream music scene.
Moreover, it was more than just music. Many club patrons were keeping to the theme by donning the identifiable cowboy hats (although not as wide as the ten-gallon type worn by Texans), plaid shirts, denims and narrow-pointed boots.
UCSI Communications Sdn Bhd managing director Gracie Geikie was very pleased.
“I want to thank you all for showing such strong support to Hi Breed, and to our coming festival next week. I’m sure you will enjoy the line-up at the Miri event, which will include the Johnny Rodgers Band from Nashville, the US.
“Be sure to come to MCMF,” she spoke to an excited crowd that night.
Staying in Miri for the whole of this week, members of Hi Breed have been together for more than 27 years. They comprise band leader and vocalist Paka Siam, lead guitarist Boniface Dihol, bass guitarist Petrus Freggard, rhythmic guitarist Gregory Lee and drummer/percussionist Ronald Lim. They will be joining other big names in country music at the Parkcity Everly Hotel Miri this Sunday for the first ever country music festival in Sarawak,
Tickets are still available at RM80 per adult and RM40 per child aged between three to 12, via www.ticketxpress.com.my, Utopia and UCSI Communications (082-368 109) in Kuching; Parkcity Everly Hotel and Planet Borneo Travel and Tour Services (Miri) and El Centro (Kota Kinabalu). In Brunei, festival-goers can get their tickets from Jane Koh (+67-387 22918).
The MCMF is organised by UCSI Communications, with support from Parkcity Everly Hotel Miri, the United States’ Embassy, Planet Borneo Travel and Tours Services, Sarawak Tourism Board and Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak Campus. It is also endorsed by the Miri City Council.
