Free flowing: There was little or no queues seen for rubbish trucks to enter the Taman Beringin transfer station.
THE problem of long queues at the Taman Beringin waste transfer station has been resolved after rectification work was carried out.
DBKL deputy director-general (Socio-
economic Development) Datuk Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said two of the four hoppers (rubbish compacters) in the station had broken down, causing the long queues of rubbish truck collectors.
“The Alam Flora CEO updated on the issue. I was told the problem lasted several days.
“On Sunday morning, I received a message from him that the long queues were no longer an issue.
“We must not forget that the transfer station was left in a dire condition after the previous contractor abandoned it in December.
“Since then, Alam Flora has been doing their level best to rectify the situation, including conducting repairs and upgrading the hoppers (rubbish compactors),” he said when met at the KL Car Free Day recently.
A transfer station is a rubbish collection point where waste is compacted and then loaded onto larger trucks for transportation to a landfill.
Amin Nordin said delays and long queues might still occur at the Taman Beringin transfer station as Alam Flora was currently repairing two other hoppers at the station.
StarMetro made several site visits to the transfer station this week between 8.30am and 11am, and we saw little or no queues of rubbish trucks entering the station.
Last week, a motorist emailed that a long line of rubbish collection trucks were seen queuing up until the Batu Caves roundabout from the Taman Beringin transfer station.
On Dec 20, more than 250 tonnes of rubbish was found dumped on the side of the Middle Ring Road II (MRR2) Highway near the Taman Beringin rubbish transfer station on after the management company, Umpan Jaya Sdn Bhd, locked the gate preventing rubbish trucks from entering the station.
Alam Flora has been given the task of overseeing the station’s operations until a new contractor can be hired by open tender. system.
