GEORGE TOWN: An Indonesian woman survived after jumping out of a moving car and leaping from the car park on the first floor of an apartment building in Paya Terubong here following an argument with her Malaysian boyfriend.
The 31-year-old factory worker had jumped out of the car while her boyfriend was looking for a space to park.
She then ran to the edge of the car park where she jumped off and landed in a drain.
She sustained body and neck injuries in the 6pm incident on Friday and was admitted to the Penang Hospital.
Police have classified the case as attempted suicide under Section 309 of the Penal Code.
Initial investigations showed that the woman had earlier accused her boyfriend, also 31, of having an affair while they were driving home to the apartment.
She had apparently opened the car door and jumped out when the man told her off: “Just jump if you want to.”
Residents immediately called for an ambulance to send her to the hospital.
It is learnt that the woman had known the man for seven years. The man was said to have lost his job as a limousine driver two weeks ago.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the couple had been staying at an apartment unit there for two years.
He said the man had allegedly told the woman that she could move out if she did not believe that he was not having an affair.
