Malacca’s Sikh Hockey Club gets into a refreshing revival

MALACCA: Back in the good old years between the late 60s and 80s, the local Sikh Hockey Club served by the likes of Harnek Singh, the late Balbir, brothers Jernial and Karam, Haricharan, Harban Singh, Sewak Singh, Dr. Mahinder, Hanaikat and Harneal Singh, who were either state junior, senior and national players along with others spelt a force to be reckoned with on the local hockey scene.

However, with community members slowly moving out of Malacca in search of better jobs and working prospects, further education and to a certain extent migration to Singapore and Australia, the club’s hockey prowess declined considerably.
