The DiGi “60 Vespas in 60 Days” contest prize presentation ceremony saw 60 lucky DiGi customers walk away with a yellow Vespa LX150 scooter, worth RM8,800 each.

The contest, which ran from Sept 2 to Oct 31, simply required customers to sign up for a weekly or monthly mobile Internet plan.

The higher the value of the subscription, the more contest entries the customer received, increasing their chances of being selected to answer an easy trivia question to win a Vespa.

For some of the lucky winners who were present at the ceremony recently, it was almost too good to be true as they said they had unknowingly participated in the contest and won their prize when they simply renewed their subscription.

KL-based Penangite Lawrence Loh, 20, recalled how he one day received a phone call from a DiGi employee, asking him an easy trivia question: ‘What colour is the DiGi logo?’

“And just like that, they told me that I won a Vespa. I think a lot of us were wondering if it was some kind of hoax at first,” he said.

Kelly Chin, 24, who took a flight from Kota Kinabalu to collect the prize on behalf of her friend, said they had not heard about the contest at the time when they received the phone call.

“It just seemed way too easy, so I helped my friend to call DiGi’s customer service and they verified that he really will be receiving a Vespa,” said Chin.

There was a bonus for those who were present at the prize presentation ceremony as the visitors were invited to play a game to see who was the fastest to upload a series of nine jumbled photos on Instagram in the right order.

Although Chin did not win a Vespa herself, she was the first to finish the game and received a brand new Sony Xperia Z, making her long trip well worth the trouble.

Loh was the second to finish and he won a Samsung Galaxy S3 while a third lucky winner, 23-year-old Hassan Basri Mat Sohod. won a HTC Desire 500.

Present to give away the prizes was DiGi head of products (Internet and Services) Praveen Rajan, who took time off from his busy schedule to congratulate the winners.
