Cardholders dash around hypermarket before winning big

IT WAS a bustling morning for 30 participants of the Giant Sweep Contest at Giant hypermarket in USJ 1, Persiaran Subang Permai in Subang Jaya recently.

Mohd Faizal Basri from USJ 2, beat 29 other Visa debit cardholders to take home the grand prize of a RM10,000 Giant shopping voucher and a shopping trolley with RM1,500 worth of Giant products.

The competition saw the participants dashing through the hypermarket to collect items without the bill exceeding RM1,500.

Other criterias for winning include collecting a minimum of 15 items from the hypermarket, collecting a minimum of three Giant brands and completing the challenge within five minutes.

Mohd Faizal’s trolley contained RM1,460 worth of products.

Second-place winner, Rozila Ali from Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, walked away with a RM8,000 Giant voucher. Rozila’s trolley contained RM1,300 worth of products.

Mohd Fazli Abd Kuddus, whose trolley contained RM1,254.13 worth of products came in third. He won a RM5,000 Giant voucher.

Present at the event were GCH Retail (M) Sdn Bhd general manager (marketing), Norine Erica Majaman, GCH Retail marketing manager, Stephen Chan, Visa head of consumer debit South- East Asia, David Fowler and Visa International (Asia Pacific) senior manager, Tony Thong.

When asked how he prepared for the competition, Mohd Faizal explained that he had scouted the hypermarket to get a feel of the place.

“I did an excel sheet and played around with the prices,” he said, adding that he had in mind the items that he wanted to take during the competition.

“The (requirement to take) three Giant products was a surprise, though,” said Mohd Faizal.

“This contest is one of the many value-added promotions that Giant organises throughout the year to reward our customers,” said Norine.

She added that it was in line with their brand promise of delivering value products with great prices.

“The overwhelming response indicates the popularity of the contest,” said Norine.
