THE Year of the Horse is fast approaching and once again, local Chinese radio station 988, has churned out another Chinese New Year album.

This time, 988 DJs are back with more catchy and trendy tunes for listeners to usher in the new year.

The sixth Chinese New Year studio album is called 988 Ma Ma Mi Ya Guo Hao Nian (988 Mamamia Have A Good Year).

The album consists of three brand new songs sung by 988 announcers K.K. Wong, Xin Yi, Yi Hui, Hau Min, Piao Ming, Yin Yin, Jason Poon and Cassey Soo.

The three songs are Ma Ma Mi Ya Guo Hao Nian, Jing Cai Mei Yi Tian (Splended Everyday), Yi Shou Xin Nian Ge (That’s One Chinese New Year Song).

Ma Ma Mi Ya Guo Hao Nian, is a Cantonese song penned by 988 DJ May while DJ Hau Min wrote the song Yi Shou Xin Nian Ge.

The album is availble in CD and DVD and will be given away for free during the station’s upcoming promotional tour.

Ang pow packets, calendars and Chinese New Year goodies will also be given out.

The album is a joint effort between DNA Laboratories Sdn Bhd and 988.

DNA Laboratories Sdn Bhd is a molecular diagnostic laboratory that specialises in providing genetic screening and molecular diagnostic services in the areas of DNA testing.

It was founded in 2006 and is now introducing a simple, safe and accurate screening test; a non-invasive chromosomes check (NICC) to screen for the probability of fetus having the three most common chromosomal abnormalities — Down Syndrome, Edward Syndrome and Patau Syndrome.

“We decided to team up with 988 and follow them on their tour so that we too can reach out to the public and infrom them about NICC,” DNA Laboratories Sdn Bhd chief technical officer Dr Wong Yong Wee said.

988’s yearly CNY album is popular among listeners.

“We have been doing this every year and listeners never fail to ask when our next CNY album will be released,” said 988 marketing manager Woo Bee Ay.

The title of the album was chosen as it signifies the Year of the Horse.

Ma means horse, and therefore the name Ma Ma Mi Ya was chosen as part of the title,” she said.

Woo added that the station had started airing the new CNY songs after Dec 25.

The 988 tour begins on Jan 12 at Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya, followed by Leisure Mall on Jan 18, Paragon Mall, Penang on Jan 25 and ends at Ipoh Parade on Jan 26.
