Chance for apple cider lovers to do good this season

ENJOY the Christmas season while being charitable by purchasing a book for charity and getting a free bottle of Somersby Apple Cider in return.

The unique charity campaign, “Books for Cider” by Carlsberg Malaysia aims to help the underprivileged by donating books to them.

This is done in collaboration with the “One for One Books” programme, a charity enterprise that believes everyone should get access to quality books regardless of their socio-economic background.

“We believe books make the best gifts during the festive season as books are the key to knowledge, which is the key to success,” said Carlsberg Malaysia marketing director Juliet Yap.

“With the launch of this campaign, we have created a platform for cider lovers to help the underprivileged who are deprived of a source of knowledge,” she said.

The public can participate by heading over to the booth in Pavilion KL and purchasing a book of their choice for charity at RM10, in exchange for a bottle of Somersby Apple Cider.

“Through this charity drive, we are offering consumers the little extras in giving back to the society when celebrating this Christmas, the festivity of giving,” said Yap, who kicked off the programme by making the first donation with her own money.

According to Yap, they aim to receive a minimum of 400 books over the duration of the campaign, which runs until tomorrow.

For every bottle of Somersby Apple Cider sold during the promotion period, Mercato and Somersby will donate 50sen towards the “Books for Cider” charity campaign.

Times Bookstore, who is jointly sponsoring this campaign, has also pledged to sponsor RM2,000 worth of books for charity at the end of the campaign.

“One for One Books” will assist in channelling all books and proceeds received at the end of the campaign to underserved communities.

To make the deal sweeter for shoppers, they can spend a minimum of RM50 in a single receipt at selected bars and restaurants, Mercato or Times Bookstore in Pavilion KL and stand to win prizes at the “Books for Cider” booth’s instant lucky dip.

Somersby Apple Cider contains 4.5% alcohol and should only be consumed by non-Muslims aged 18 and above.
