Greetings to shoppers: The lit arches welcome visitors to the BBKLCC area.
BY day it is a busy shopping hub, but it is when the sun sets that the Bukit Bintang — KLCC (BBKLCC) district truly sparkles, this time with unique light decorations.
Located after the lit arches along Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan P Ramlee, the decorations include music notes, musical instruments as well as Christmas wreaths and gift boxes.
These adornments stretch all the way to Berjaya Times Square and have brought plenty of cheer to those in the area. Visitors can be seen taking pictures and admiring the lights.
BBKLCC Tourism Association Kuala Lumpur chairman Joyce Yap said that while many main shopping areas in other countries are slowly doing away with grand lighting decorations, here they believe it is an essential part of a good shopping experience.
“Many prefer to hold events rather than put up decorations but I feel part of the enjoyment comes from what we see and hear. In fact, by putting up festive decorations, we are able to create a feel-good factor that, in turn, encourages shopping,” she said.
Yap, who is also Pavilion Kuala Lumpur retail chief executive officer, said the rule of thumb was to spend 3% of the total tenant rental collection for marketing purposes, which includes decorations.
“End of the year is usually the big one and we started conceptualising the theme six months ahead in order to look for quality and best-price items,” she added.
Yap revealed that they were also planning to have a special street parade called World Fiesta on Dec 28 along the lit stretch in front of Pavilion all the way to Lot 10.
“We hope this can be developed into a signature event that people, both local and foreign, will remember and look forward to every year,” she added.
The event will be from 9pm to 10.30pm and will feature five themes inspired by the five continents of the world.
There will be floats, a parade featuring street performers and dance troupes; all dressed in grand costumes.
BBKLCC Tourism Association represents 3,000 specialty retail outlets across nine malls in the area and works towards knowledge sharing to establish the area as a world shopping paradise as well as provide a voice for the industry players.
