New attraction: An artist’S impression of MTAC which is supposed to be a unique attraction where tourists and visitors can learn, experience and enjoy Malaysian culture and attractions in one place.
THE project which goes by the working title Malaysia Truly Asia Centre (MTAC) is still being conceptualised.
The developers, Khazanah Nasional Berhad’s Leisure and Tourism Division subsidiary Themed Attractions and Resorts (TAR) corporate communications head Lilian Yong-Babani said they were still in the process of surveying a few suitable sites, including the much-talked about plot of land near Tugu Negara, Kuala Lumpur but declined to comment further.
It is clearly stated in the TAR website that the location for the MTAC project has not been confirmed by the relevant authorities at press time.
“The plot of land near Tugu Negara is just one of the options.
“The concept has been contemplated for several years, but the proposed project is subject to approval from Themed Attraction’s various stakeholders, including its shareholders and other relevant government authorities.
“There is still along way to go, it is a very big project.
“Like its name, the content must promote Malaysia’s cultural and natural assets and be sustainable at the same time,” she said.
However, The Hettema Group (HTG) has listed itself as the designer and project manager for MTAC.
HTG’s clients include Resorts
World Sentosa, where it developed the Jurassic Park Ride Adventure attraction at Universal Studios, Singapore.
Artist impressions of MTAC is also posted on the HTG website.
Commenting on the proposed site near Tugu Negara during a telephone conversation with StarMetro, Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib said, “The green light will be given only upon consent from all the parties under Rule 5.”
Rule 5 of DBKL is a provision of law that requires the mayor to refer to the registered owners of the
adjacent land through advertisements in newspapers and exhibi-tion to invite objections to the
application for development that involves the conversion of land use, zoning or increase in residential density.
“We do not see any problem apart from several land issues that needs to be resolved first.
“If the surrounding land owners do not object, we will issue the development order,” he said.
