THE inaugural TSBreakAway project by Tourism Selangor was successful in bringing together top bloggers and photographers to share their expertise with new budding bloggers, on domestic travel.

Twenty bloggers were selected but only 12 finalists were picked for a five day, four night session to participate in the TSBreakAway programme learning tour where participants attended workshops, on-the-field training and paragliding among other activities..

The group was taken to several popular tourist spots around Selangor, and had the opportunity to mingle with fellow bloggers, and shared their experiences and exchanged ideas.

Irene Yap who won the grand prize of RM10,000 was excited during the prize giving ceremony held at DPAC, Empire Damansara in Petaling Jaya, when her name was called out.

In the Canon Photo Storytelling Challenge, Joyce Koh took home the top prize of RM1,000 cash and a Canon DSLR Camera.

Rusli Abd Wahab won paragliding lessons worth RM1,900 for the Best Paragliding Story category.

Meanwhile, the People’s Choice Award went to Adam Ahmad who received RM1,000 cash.

Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment Committee chairman Elizabeth Wong said many people were on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook, and these were good platforms to attract tourists to the state.

She said the TS BreakAway programme aimed to get bloggers to know more about tourists attraction destinations in Selangor, and help render exposure via social media.

“This will attract more tourists, domestic and foreign, to visit Selangor.

“We will make this an annual project to boost tourism in the state,’’ she said.

Tourism Selangor general manager Noorul Ashikian Mohd Din said many foreign bloggers had joined other similar programmes like Tourism Selangor Day Out and Tourism Selangor Eat Out.

“We had bloggers from Indonesia, Taiwan and China who participated in these programmes,” she said.
