Deep-root ed traditi on: Guests are treated to classical Indian music during the unveiling of Petronas’ Deepavali 2013 campaign.
DEEPAVALI has many facets and significance. The lighting of lamps signifies the triumph of good over evil and also a sign of gratitude to the deities for the blessings received.
This year, Petronas’ Deepavali campaign highlights interesting
facets of the celebration that have been woven into the tapestry of Malaysian tradition and culture.
The campaign comprises a specially produced three-minute web film titled Our Deepavali, a 60-second version of the film for a television commercial (TVC) and a series of webisodes on various aspects of the festival.
With the theme “The Light That Radiates, Illuminates Lives”, the web film follows Rani, a caretaker at a home for the elderly, as she prepares to return to her hometown for Deepavali.
On seeing that three elderly residents — Arun, Goh and Vinod — have no place to go to for the holiday, she decides to take them along on her journey.
The journey is filled with interesting and lighthearted moments,
making it a celebration of friendship, tolerance and understanding.
The series of webisodes, which features radio deejay Aanantha, will highlight the culture and traditions that Hindus in Malaysia observe
as they celebrate the Festival of Lights.
The interesting traditions shared include the story behind the celebration, its history and significance and the preparation leading to the celebration.
Petronas’ Deepavali 2013 campaign was launched in Kuala Lumpur recently by Petronas general manager M. Suhaimy Kamaruddin.
In his speech, Suhaimy said festival campaigns were platforms for Petronas to convey messages of social cohesion through shared understanding of diverse cultures and traditions.
“This Deepavali, we take a similar approach with the hope that our campaign will help all Malaysians understand and appreciate this significant Malaysian celebration and the culture and tradition behind it a little better,” he said.
The TVC is now on air while the web film can be viewed on Petronas’ official YouTube channel.
The webisodes will air beginning Nov 12.
