From the golden age of Indian cinema featuring Raj Kapoor and Nargis, to the glory years of Amitabh Bachchan and present-day Hindi cinema, Bollywood is indeed a force to be reckoned with.
In commemoration of 100 years of Bollywood, about 40 people put their knowledge of Hindi cinema to the test via the Bollywood Quiz, hosted by the Indian Cultural Centre recently.
Participants, in teams of two, competed to answer 20 questions on Hindi cinema within 20 minutes.
Six teams were later selected for the qualifying round, from which three were chosen for the grand finale.
The quiz also engaged the audience by getting them to answer questions the teams could not.
Programme manager Sagar Borgoankar, 35, and his teammate, IT manager Vivekanand Gunduluru, 32, proved themselves as the most knowledgeable team on Bollywood. They bagged the first prize of RM1,000.
The two had previously joined other quiz programmes on the topic to improve their knowledge, besides watching Hindi movies from different periods of time over and over again.
Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia Vijay Gokhale described the event as “more entertaining than a Bollywood movie” and congratulated the participants.
The event was hosted by quizmaster Phanindra Ivatury, who has hosted a number of similar events by the High Commission, including last month’s Quiz on Indian Independence Movement.
