MORE than 200 cyclists are expected to take part in the 4th Fun Ride to Genting that will be held on Oct 27.
The event, organised by the Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS), will start at 8.30am at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Kubu Baru and is expected to finish at 12,30pm at Strawberry Leisure Farm in Gohtong Jaya, Genting Highlands.
Participants can take part in three categories — men’s Open (mountain bike), men’s Open (road bike) and women’s Open.
The 35km ride will start in the scenic town of Kuala Kubu Baru heading to Ulu Yam and to Kalong Tengah and the ride will end in Genting Highlands.
MDHS secretary Azman Dahlan said the ride was organised annually and would be used as a platform for cyclists to test their endurance on the uphill climb.
“The route that the participants will take will be also used as the route for the Tour De Langkawi next year.
“This event is also to promote tourism in Hulu Selangor as a scenic destination.
“Spectators who follow the event up to Genting Highlands will be able to pick strawberries for free of charge and eat it fresh at the Strawberry Leisure Farm in Gohtong Jaya,
“There is also a bee and insect farm in Genting Highlands where spectators can visit, besides a lucky draw,” said Azman, during the launch at MDHS building in Kuala Kubu Baru recently.
In addition, MDHS president Tukiman Nail said the Kuala Kubu Baru (KKB) town has been a hub for cyclists and other tourists on weekends for more than a decade.
“Many cyclists stop here before cycling or riding to either Fraser’s Hill or Genting Highlands.
“We hope this event will encourage the younger generation to take up this healthy sport,” said Tukiman, who had a Hari Raya Haji ritual ceremony at the premises with a corporate company.
During the ceremony, the sacrificed meat was distributed to some 200 residents in the surrounding area.
The entry fee for each participant is RM55.
