A THREE-DAY architecture exhibition is now being held at St Jo’s Level 1 in Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang, to mark the World Architecture Day 2013.
Organised by The Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) northern chapter, the ‘Cultured Architecture Exhibition’, which ends tomorrow, showcases the extraordinary talent and skills of its members on culture, arts, conservation and heritage.
“Through the exhibits, the public and shoppers are able to catch a glimpse of the inner works of talented and creative minds.
“They will be in awe over the mastery of the gifted architects.
“The exhibition pays homage to the brilliant minds behind the creation,” PAM chairman K. Parama Nathan said during the opening ceremony yesterday.
Parama Nathan said in recent times, the institute had become involved in “building capacity” within the profession to serve the better interests of the industry.
He said through the continuous professional development programmes, the industry had been enjoying access to skills development and knowledge enhancement to meet the challenges in the current market.
He added that PAM members had become increasingly competent and confident, especially in managing aspects like sustainable development, green building and conservation of both natural and heritage sites.
Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, who launched the exhibition, said it was held in line with the state’s vision of a liveable city.
“George Town was named Asia’s eighth ‘liveable city’ for two consecutive years from 2011 by ECA International’s annual location ratings research.
“Therefore, all the stakeholders, including the architects, have to work hand-in-hand to keep the momentum going,” he said.
