Malaysia and Brunei to decide on official name of bridge

KUCHING: The official name of Sungai Pandaruan bridge will be decided by both Malaysia and Brunei.

Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof said he would visit his counterparts in Brunei to discuss the name of the bridge linking Brunei and Limbang.

“I will be visiting our counterparts in Brunei soon in regards to the opening ceremony of the bridge. We also want to name the bridge together. It signifies the collaboration and friendship between Brunei and Malaysia, in particular, Sarawak,” he told reporters when asked about the bridge’s development here yesterday.

Fadillah said the bridge was nearing completion, adding that the next matter to be discussed was the other connecting roads between Brunei and Sarawak.

Construction on the RM20mil bridge began in April last year. Once completed, it would make land travel much faster and smoother.

The bridge is also expected to generate more trade and travels between Brunei and Lawas as well as other parts of Sarawak.

Currently, travellers have to use the Malaysia/Brunei ferry service to cross the border.
