KUCHING: Passengers on a Malaysia Airlines flight bound for Sibu had a brief scare when the aircraft experienced technical difficulties with its tyres as it was about to take off.
At 10.10am yesterday, flight MH2266 was scheduled to depart from Kuching International Airport when its right rear tyre burst.
A passenger, who declined to be named, said the aircraft seemed unstable as it was moving towards the runway.
He then heard what sounded like a tyre bursting.
“It made me panic a little,” he added.
According to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) Kuching manager Sunis Naiman, no one was injured in the incident and all 144 passengers as well as the crew members of the aircraft were also evacuated safely.
He said Malaysia Airports Bhd’s fire and rescue team rushed to the scene to bring the situation under control.
“An investigation will be carried out by the flight operator to determine the cause of the incident,” he said.
It is learnt that the affected passengers were able to board another flight to Sibu in the evening.
