KUCHING: In conjunction with Sarawak’s 50th anniversary of independence, the state government is conferring Sarawak Golden Jubilee commemorative medals on those who have contributed their services to the state’s development over the years.
Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin heads a list of seven recipients awarded the Pengasas Perjuangan Kemerdekaan (PPK) for their invaluable contributions to the state as well as involvement in Sarawak’s independence and formation of Malaysia.
The other recipients are Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, former chief minister Tun Abdul Rahman Ya’kub, former deputy chief minister Tan Sri Wong Soon Kai, former political secretary Datuk Seri Dominic Dagok and retired politicians Datuk Amar Dunstan Endawi and Datuk Seri Tajang Laing.
They received the awards from Salahuddin at the State Assembly Complex here yesterday.
Besides the PPK, the state government will confer three other medals, which are the Pingat Cemerlang Jubli Emas (PCE), Pingat Bakti Jubli Emas (PBE) and Pingat Terpuji Jubli Emas (PTE).
The medals recognise those who have contributed to the economic, social and political development of Sarawak in various sectors such as public service, education, medicine, industry, commerce, sports, arts, culture and grassroots leadership.
There will be 95 recipients of the PCE, 283 of the PBE and 411 of the PTE.
The medals will be announced and awarded to the recipients in stages later this year.
