TOURISTS can look forward to more incentives in eight Asian cities with the launch of One Asia Pass.
The One Asia Pass holders will receive a range of benefits, such as discounts on transportation, tours, entrance fee, free gifts and shopping vouchers in Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Bangkok, Jakarta, New Delhi and Kuala Lumpur.
It is an initiative by the Council for Promotion of Tourism in Asia (CPTA) and part of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) “Welcome to Asia” campaign, which aims to cross-sell and encourage longer visits to more member cities.
DBKL director-general Datuk Salleh Yusop said such a collaboration was a great opportunity for all member cities to benefit from the collective development of the tourism industry in Asia as a whole.
“The One Asia Pass has the potential to increase tourist arrivals from outside Asia as well as encourage us to visit our neighbours in Asia.
“I am proud that Kuala Lumpur is taking the lead in launching this tourism initiative
“I am happy that after three years of planning, this project is finally being implemented,” he said.
“We are bonded by common interest. Every city has its own distinctive character.
“We should enhance unity, cooperation, mutual support and greater contribution in showcasing our culture to the world,” he said at the One Asia Pass launch at the Kuala Lumpur Library recently.
On behalf of CPTA, Bureau of Industrial and Labour Affairs — Tokyo director general Yuji Tsukada said he hoped for the continued cooperation or joint effort to promote tourism among member cities.
“I hope the designated CPTA booths set up during the Matta Fair at Putra World
Trade Centre recently helped to attract tourists and showcase the charms of each city,” he said.
To apply for the One Asia Pass, tourist need to sign up for the programme at www.welcometoasia.jp and download various promotional vouchers for free.
Tourists can opt to either print the coupons and use them on the spot or inform the staff of the campaign code stated in the pass, especially for hotel bookings.
The 12th CPTA meeting was also in progress with delegations from six major Asia cities present to discuss matters like collaboration, cross promotion and best practises.
They also made a joint declaration towards higher cooperation in promoting tourism in Asia.
