A FULL field of some 11,000 runners is expected at the 15th adidas King of the Road run, scheduled for the NPE Highway on Oct 20.
Registration for the event closed within a week of it opening to the public – the maximum number of entries achieved without prodding.
The up-and-coming event will have two distances for runners to choose from. Besides the less demanding 10km course, the more serious runners will cover a 16.8km run.
Pleased with the size of the field, adidas’ Malaysia brand manager Bryan Gee said they increased the number of runners in recent years.
“Considering that a total of 8,800 runners took part in the event two years ago, it is a strong indication that running is a very popular recreational pursuit here in Malaysia and we are excited about the newcomers taking part in the event,” Bryan added.
The event is part of the brand’s international initiative, with runs hosted in five countries in the South-East Asian region. Malaysia is the final leg of the series.
The run will also serve as a race for champions from four countries – the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia – who will face-off in a tussle for supremacy.
Meanwhile, the organisers have included two separate categories for secondary school boys and girls, aged between 15 and 17 in the 10km event this year.
The other four categories each for the 10km and 16.8km are men’s and women’s national open as well men’s and women’s international contests, for participants aged 18 years and above.
