Parames finds solace in creating her own paintings.
BETTER late than never seems to be the case for a mother of two who is finally revealing her talent in abstract painting after keeping it hidden for many years.
V. Parameswary, 49, spent most of her life working before realising she had a talent for art.
However, the single mother had to go through great pain before realising she was destined to be an artist.
Although Parames, as she is fondly known, had a knack for drawing and painting since school days, she did not pursue it further.
“I did not realise I had a talent to be an artist until my art master told me so. His words of encouragement gave me the courage and strength to seriously venture into painting and I am amazed at the outcome,’’ she said
Parames, whose father died of old age in February, said the two weeks she spent with her father in hospital prior to his death, was a catalyst to her discovering her talent.
She said this was the most time she had spent with her father.
“I experienced joy in those moments of being close to someone who was the source of my physical presence in this world.
”`I even drew my father while in bed and he liked it,’’ said Parames, who is also known as a good singer.
After her father’s death, the former general manager of an advertising company said she was unable to go back to work and took up painting seriously.
“I realise that I am able to express myself through art and take great joy in it.
“Abstract painting, which enables me to play with colours, gave me added peace,’’ said Parames, adding that she had completed more than 40 paintings over the past year.
Parames is grateful to her friends and family members who have offered her moral and financial support.
She said friends who appreciated her work also bought her paintings.
“A few of them have also recommended my work to their friends,’’ she said.
She also draws inspiration from religious scripture and famous poets such as Rumi.
Parames is due to hold her inaugural solo art exhibition at The Canvas, G6C, Jalan PJU 8/3A, Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya.
