Ready to roll: The organising committee of the Rock to Rock Run 2013 posing for a group photo after the press conference to announce the event.
ENJOY a scenic, early morning sprint while dressed as your favourite rock star and party with a live band afterwards, all in the name of charity, at the Rock to Rock Run 2013.
Organised by Hard Rock Hotel Penang for the fourth year running, the event taking place along the Batu Ferringhi — Teluk Bahang coastal road on Oct 27 aims at raising RM50,000 in aid of SJK (C) Permatang Tinggi in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
To start around 6.30am, it is divided into two segments — the 3.8km Fun Run and the 10.2km Competitive Run. The latter is split into four categories, Male (aged 13 to 44), Male Veteran (45 and above), Female (13 to 14) and Female Veteran (45 and above).
For the Fun Run, participants will be flagged off from the hotel, make their way along the meandering coastal road until the Tropical Spice Gardens, before heading back. Put on your best costumes as there
will also be prizes for the best dressed.
Those taking part in the Competitive Run will have to venture further until the Penang Butterfly Farm instead, followed by the return leg, with the live party held after that at the finishing line.
Speaking at a press conference recently, the hotel’s general manager John Primmer said the eagerly anticipated event epitomised the brand’s mantra, Take Time to be Kind.
“We are committed towards various charitable causes. Proceeds from the run will be donated to the school to create a better environment for its students and teachers.”
SJK (C) Permatang Tinggi, founded in the 1950s, currently has 35 classrooms, 64 teachers and 1,207 students crammed into two buildings, but lacks the funds to address the dire lack of space.
As such, some teachers’ workstations have been moved to corridors, and students have had to make do with temporary classrooms outside the school compound, Primmer pointed out.
Registration for the run is currently open, and limited to the first 2,200 (for all categories combined), who sign up either online (limited to 2,000), or at the hotel (limited to 200) in Batu Ferringhi.
Fees are RM45 for the Fun Run, and RM65 for the Competitive Run. All participants will receive an event T-shirt, certificate of participation and lucky draw entry. Those who complete the course will also receive medals or a mystery gift.
