In need of help: Stop Hunger Now volunteers delivering food packs to Pak Ali and Majid in Kampung Samy, Port Klang.
The fundraising had a head start with a RM10,000 pledge from Acer Malaysia.
Also, RM5 for every Acer product sold at their roadshows will be donated to the programme.
Roadshow details are available at Acer Malaysia facebook (https://www.facebook.com/AcerMalaysia).
Both organisations are urging the public to support the cause, to enable more people to receive at least one nutritious meal a day.
“Acer decided to take part in the two-month programme under our corporate social responsibility programme.
“We have committed to donating a minimum of RM10,000 or 10,000 packs of meals. With each pack providing six reasonable meal servings, the10,000 packs will feed 60,000 people. However, we are expanding this programme to include generous Malaysians and help more people,” said Acer Sales & Services Sdn Bhd general manager Ricky Tan.
Anyone can make a donation without any purchase at http://simplygiving.com/acerstopshunger.
For every RM10 donated, the public is helping to provide food for 60 people.
Each Stop Hunger Now meal pack costs just RM1 and is nutritious. It contains rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavouring mix, including 21 essential vitamins and minerals.
With a shelf life of two years, the packs are easy to transport and are a viable solution to combat hunger among the world’s most impoverished.
“Acer Malaysia hopes that by collaborating with Stop Hunger Now, we can in a small way, contribute towards alleviating hunger among the world’s poorest.
“We hope the public will join us in contributing towards this programme,” said Tan.
The packing of meals using funds raised via this programme is scheduled to take place on World Peace Day on Sept 21.
