Enchantin g: One of the couples engaged in a tender dance.
A TOTAL of 234 couples from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) waltzed their way into the Malaysia Book of Records during the Waltz with Love II dance event at the university’s Student Pavillion II.
The event gave couples the opportunity to relive their childhood fantasies of dancing with their prince and princess charming while also earning the achievement of having the most couples dancing the waltz on a single occasion on July 27.
The event, organised by the Utar Young Entrepreneurship Society, Entrepreneurship Society and the Dance Club, was an enchanting sight to behold as the elegantly-dressed couples glided across the floor to popular love ballads.
The night was more memorable for marketing students Lau Wai Kit and Lim Cheng Yee, as Wai Kit took advantage of the romantic atmosphere and renewed his love confession to his 21-year-old girlfriend.
In a typical old-school proposal, Wai Kit went down on his knee and presented Cheng Yee with a bouquet of flowers while the crowd cheered.
“Cheng Yee had mentioned before that if a man was brave enough to confess his love to his girlfriend in public, it would prove that he really loved her a lot.
“Since the circumstances seemed perfect, I took the chance to tell her how much I love her again,” he said, adding that Cheng Yee was overcome with emotion during the experience.
Besides the air of romance lingering about the couples, two award-winning bartenders from Ipoh lit up the night with exciting stunts, while some students took to the stage to entertain the crowd with solo and group performances.
Ten lucky couples were also picked by the emcees to contest for the title of best-dressed couple, with the winning couples receiving tiaras and vouchers from the Youth Malaysia Movement.
