JUDE Fernandez knows how to take a sad song and make it better. The renowned bass player for Aseana Percussion Unit (APU), who cut his teeth playing the instrument from 1976 in bands like Memories, Setup, 3D and Whispers, among others, is suffering from Stage 4 prostate cancer, which has now spread to his spine.

The escalating cost of the 57-year-old bassist’s treatment has seen the music community come together to organise a fund-raising jam session aptly titled “Hey Jude”, a jamboree expected to swing on July 4 at Rockafellas Bar in Petaling Jaya.
