RM250,00 fine and jail for bribing MACC officer


Salesman Lai Boon Piau (right), pleaded guilty to offering a bribe of RM50,000 to a Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission enforcement officer at the Sessions Court in Johor Baru here on June 24. He was slapped with a fine of RM250,000 and jailed a day for the offence.

JOHOR BARU: An anti-corruption officer turned down a RM50,000 bribe offered by a salesman of a company that had stored more than 55,000 litres of diesel.

Mohd Nazali Md Jidin of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said salesman Lai Boon Piau, 38, had initially tried to bribe him with RM30,000 but he turned it down and advised Lai against doing so.
