Youths score with video on drink-driving KDU students win trip to France in competition

THE winners of Pernod Ricard Malaysia’s Responsib’ALL CSR Case Competition 2012/ 2013 were announced at KDU University College in Damansara Jaya recently.

“Promoting responsible consumption to fight against excessive or inappropriate drinking is indisputably a key priority for Pernod Ricard,” said Pernod Ricard Malaysia managing director CK Tan in his speech at the prize-giving ceremony.

In September 2012, hospitality students of KDU University College were invited to participate in the corporate social responsibility competition with the theme, “For youth, by youth: Engaging youth on alcohol issues.”

The eight participating teams were asked to develop a social marketing campaign that tackled one of the following issues: binge drinking, drink driving or underage drinking.

The final stage of the competition saw the two finalists, Team Fluffy Unicorn and Team Smart Drinkers pairing up with separate production houses to create a viral video that effectively spread their message on responsible drinking.

The trio from Team Smart Drinkers, comprising Jeanette Susanne Wilson, Farah Liyana Safaruddin and Tung Lik Man were awarded first place for their dramatic video on drink-driving, titled, Some stupid drunk driver!!!

“We were initially planning on making a comical video, but we later agreed that a dramatic video could have a bigger impact on viewers,” explained Farah.

In a surprise twist, Tan announced that in addition to the RM5,000 prize, the three winners will be going on an all-expense-paid trip to Paris for five days.

As runners-up, Team Fluffy Unicorn duo Ng Yu Sheng and Ryan Lim Dao-Zhen took home RM3,000 and a small gift from Pernod Ricard Malaysia.

French distilled beverage company Pernod Ricard launched the annual Responsib’ALL CSR campaign on responsible alcohol consumption in 2011 for all its branches worldwide.
