THE opening showcase of Gurney Plaza’s Lux Aestiva fashion month in Penang was a sparkling affair.
Celebrities Jojo Struys and Josiah Mizukami, both actors, models and TV hosts, sashayed around the U-shaped runway showing off the latest Tag Heuer watches around their wrists.
They joined other professional models showcasing pieces from the Swiss watchmaker’s Heritage, Carrera, Link, Aqua Racer and Formula One Steel and Ceramic collections.
According to Tag Heuer retail manager Cynthia Voon, the watches ranged in price from RM8,900 to RM20,400, and epitomised the company’s 150-year history of quality craftsmanship.
“The timepieces are designed to be sleek and sporty, making them versatile enough for various occasions,” she said.
Speaking after the event at the mall’s New Wing Atrium on Saturday, Kuala Lumpur-based Struys and Mizukami both said they were delighted to be in the Pearl of the Orient.
“I come up here quite often just to enjoy the amazing food,” said Struys whose food programme ‘Chalk and Cheese’ was shot in Penang.
Mizukami likened Penang to his birthplace of Hawaii, and said, “Island life goes by at a more relaxed pace. The people are more humble and friendly, and there is just so much to see and do here.”
On Sunday, two runway shows featured the Spring Summer 2013 collections of jewellery by Pandora and footwear by Clarks. The models also wore outfits from Eclipse and FCUK.
The jeweller highlighted 40 pieces in 14-karat gold and sterling silver. The sophisticated designs were inspired by delicate cherry blossoms.
Pandora Malaysia managing director Datin Zarida Noordin said, “All women have their own stories, different personalities that they want to celebrate, and moments that have made a difference in their life.
“We give individuals a way to tell their stories through jewellery, as the pieces can be mixed and matched to express one’s personality.”
Clarks showcased 14 pairs of footwear for both men and women, along with handbags, under the ‘British Holiday’ theme.
They drew inspiration from city, beach and countryside landscapes, reflecting the change of seasons.
The Lux Aestiva (Latin for summertime) fashion showcases continue this weekend.
The Timberland, Braun Buffel and Desigual brands will be featured tomorrow at 3pm, 4pm and 7pm respectively.
On Sunday, Swarovski, Roxy and Quiksilver will unveil their latest collections in runway shows at 3pm at 5pm.
Another event during the mall’s annual fashion month is the Green Fashion Remix and Revamp at 3pm on April 20 where old apparel will be transformed into new outfits.
On April 27, also at 3pm, fashion design students of Equator Academy of Art will be putting on a show to exhibit their amazing couture creations.
