PARTY promoters and clubs won’t let up as April starts off with a mix of underground and rising DJs and top ranked global stars all flying in to share their music with us. With mid week extras due to the extra public holiday next Thursday.
113, Jalan Ampang, KL
Global presents Otto Knows (SWE). From his youthful days sneaking into Stockholm’s underground nightclubs to the ardent support of Swedish House Mafias’ assorted members, Otto Jettman is undoubtedly the next in a line of explosive new talent to emerge from Sebastian Ingrosso’s Refune Records stronghold.
His Otto Knows moniker has come to embody the true potential of passionate creativity within global dance music. Brought to the attention of Ingrosso thanks to a chance meeting in their native Stockholm, his development as a DJ and producer came through the first hand experience of touring alongside the Refune head honcho.
Debuting alongside none other than Tim Berg (aka Avicii) and Swedish peer Oliver Ingrosso, the time between iTrack and his breakthrough single Million Voices was a period of considerable development under Ingrosso’s watchful eye.
Created in the back room of the studio whilst Ingrosso and Alesso penned festival favourite Calling, Million Voices would propel the young producer forwards, proving a consistent favourite both across the airwaves and on the white isle of Ibiza throughout 2012. Otto Knows is quickly becoming one of Sweden’s most popular exports, the next in the country’s rich lineage of musical talent.

Loud presents Bassjackers (NL).
On an afternoon somewhere in the beginning of 2007 two friends decided to join forces, one DJ and one producer, both sharing great passion for house music, but Bassjackers a.k.a. Marlon Flohr and Ralph van Hilst had not foreseen what was coming when they started out on their collaboration.
Their big break came in 2011, their dance floor bomb Mush Mush got picked up by Tiësto and got released on Tiësto’s imprint Musical Freedom.
This resulted in a massive career boost. Remixing for A-list artists like Rihanna and Moby, playing in Privilege Ibiza alongside Tiësto and touring around the globe to demolish dance floors is just the beginning. Bassjackers are taking over. Supported by Goldfish and Blink, plus Davern.

As a DJ, Aeroplane has never been at the mercy of traditional bpms, and being free of “the dancefloor pressure” has given Vito additional license to slow things down and look around, finding the perfect blend between club music, pop hooks, and spaced-out soundscapes. A tribute to that one short half decade period from the period from the late 1980s to the early 1990s when one particular sub-genre of club music almost reigned supreme – New Jack Swing. New Jack Swing – A Tribute party with G Funk aka Najee who was once the rapper for Malaysian pioneer hip hop collective Krash Kozz back in the early 1990s.
A fusion genre, New Jack Swing (NJS) (also known as swingbeat) was spearheaded at the time by Grammy Award-winning producer Teddy Riley (before his Grammy wins) and Bernard Bell.
Its influence, along with hip hop, seeped into pop culture and was the definitive sound of the inventive Black New York club scene of the day, fusing the rhythms, samples and production techniques of hip hop and dance-pop with the urban contemporary sounds of R&B. Hits from Bobby Brown, Bell Biv Devoe, New Edition, MC Hammer, Babyface, Paula Abdul and heavier sounds from Heavy D and The Boyz, En Vogue, Tony! Toni! Toné!, Jodeci, Wrecks-N-Effect and dozens more artistes soundtracked the scene.
Even Janet Jackson was credited as one of the earlier influences of the genre, while brother, the late Michael’s album Dangerous carried a lot of New Jack Swing influences.
The fashion and lifestyle matched the youthful exuberance in the music. It was the era of Air Jordans, Starter jackets, high-top haircuts, and crazy dance moves that all became a way of life, as did movies like New Jack City and House Party and TV shows like The Arsenio Hall Show and In Living Color.
Fast forwarding to April 10, why not dust off your oversized leather bomber jacket and a couple of fresh blazers, oversized and in various funky colours and make your way to Garibar for NEW JACK SWING – A TRIBUTE from 8pm onwards. For reservations and admission enquiry call 03-2282 3457.
