Batang Lupar MP not daunted by rumours on Internet

KUCHING: Despite rumours circulating on the Internet that Barisan Nasional might lose Batang Lupar in the general polls, incumbent MP Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim is still carrying out her duties.

“I am still Batang Lupar MP, and it is my duty to serve the people,” she told reporters after officiating at KR1M Batu Kawa’s opening ceremony here yesterday.

Rohani was told that Batang Lupar was a grey area and Barisan risked losing it.

Another rumour also suggested that she be dropped to make way for a new face.

“You will hear a lot of stories and see all sorts of faces popping up wanting or claiming to be candidates.

“I also read the blogs and social media,” she said.

Whatever it was, Rohani said she was confident that Barisan would retain Batang Lupar regardless of the candidate.

“We will only know after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announce them (candidates and election date),” she said.

Rohani, a former Santubong MP, contested the seat for the first time in the 2008 general election in a seat-swap with her PBB colleague Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who is Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker.
