DJ awards back for fifth year in a row

THE Annual Choons Awards 2012/2013 is returning for its fifth consecutive year, and the news for DJs and producers nationwide (and internationally) is that submission of tracks for the DJ producers award opens on Sunday.

Visit www.choonsawards.com/about-us for more information on how to register your tracks and entries. The rest of the 18 or so categories remains open for nominations.

While the final nominees list will be announced in early April ready for online voting process, here’s a chance to get your early decisions heard as to who your favourite Djs/MCs/Live Acts, what your favourite bar/club/club nights and more are for 2012/2013.

Clubbers please also note that the appearance of American house legend David Morales tonight at Poppy Garden has been postponed due to family bereavement on the part of the artistes.

We wish Morales all the best, and organisers have assure us of any updates in his future schedule.

So the month of March begins today, and in anticipation of the big mid month FMFA and ASOT festival madness, the action in the Klang Valley seems to be picking up a little with a host of local parties and some off the mainstream internationals holding sway this next week.

Loud presents NO_ID (NL). Supported by Goldfish, Blink and Davern.

Born in Amsterdam, raised on music, the NO_ID duo kicked off in 2008 and instantly shook the Dutch DJ scene by winning the Amsterdam Dance Event Demolition Contest with one of their first tracks called Wurld.

This track was nominated for best house track with commercial potential. NO_ID tries to create a new and fresh international big room, progressive house sound, that is rarely found on the Dutch and international dance floors nowadays.

DNB XTRA featuring Makoto (JP). DNB XTRA, Kuala Lumpur’s long standing night of heavyweight international drum’n’bass music kicks off its 2013 offerings with the return of Japanese drum’n’bass legend Makoto, and a return to one of its earlier hunting grounds – Passion KL.

Japan’s Makoto is testament to the international scope and power of electronic music.

Makoto kicked off 2013 with a remix of Snow Patrol’s Fallen Empires and electro dance band Tortured Soul’s Dirty and he continues to be at the forefront of the Japanese and international arena after more than 13 years on the scene.

His recent full length release Souled Out (2011) a collection of various genres and styles, highlighting Makoto’s incredible diversity and skill ranging from the drum’n’bass he is renowned right to the soul and funk that he continues to love.

Brought to you by Loops Collective, Passion KL and Take Off Records, this night will be supported by some the cream of the local drum’n’bass scene, including Anowl, Emisz, Duster and DJ Low.
